Fashion secrets from a national champion
Thursday, June 17, 2010
One would think that winning a national championship for the first time would call for some celebration. That was not the case for Purdue’s Maude-Aimee LeBlanc. After the Boilermakers won the NCAA Women’s Championship in May, her celebration included national team training camp and summer school. “These are the sacrifices we make to be champions,” LeBlanc said.
So I felt it was my duty to pull her away from the training for some fashion fun, digging as deep as I could into the Purdue fairway fashion secrets.
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’m from Quebec. I am the youngest of four children. My major is psychology at Purdue. And the reason why I chose to go here is because I knew the team was really strong and talented. The year prior to my entry at Purdue, the team finished second at nationals, not to mention the practice facilities and courses are absolutely fantastic!
Tell us about the dreaded college uniforms.
You are not going to believe this but we love our uniforms! We wear a very cool combination of Kate & Lord, Ping tops and Nike bottoms. And the fashionable hats you see us sporting are made by Ahead.
What type of style do you wear on the course when you’re not in your Purdue uniform?
I usually only sport Nike or Adidas brands, but spice it up with all sorts of colors – red, blue, green and pinks. I am not a big fan of skorts. However, I do wear them sometimes. I mostly wear shorts, black or white. Boring, I know, but it keeps things simple. One thing I’ve never worn is a sleeveless shirt, but I’m seriously considering it because my tan lines are probably the worse on the team.
What do you and your teammates like to wear to the movies, class and on a date?
I am a simple Canadian girl that usually wears jeans and a T-shirt. But a lot of the girls on the team take it to the next level in skirts and dresses. Maybe one day I’ll pull out the ultra-feminine look.
I saw that the teams at this years NCAAs were spicing up the uniforms with accessories. Does Purdue do this?
We painted our nails with gold nail polish and drew a black “P” on top for the NCAAs. Maybe that should be our lucky superstition.
When you turn pro after college, what brand would you like to wear?
I really like Puma clothes. They’re very colorful, young and very fashionable. I also like Nike.
Which pro golfers do you think have the best style?
Rickie Fowler, Tiger, Anna Nordqvist and Michelle Wie.
Do you have any golf fashion advice?
Wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident. That’s how you’ll play your best golf. And don’t forget to wear sunscreen because those tan lines can get ugly.
