PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – I was sitting behind the 17th tee when 18-year-old Ryo Ishikawa hit a moon shot with his 4-iron that ended up about 5 feet from the hole. As the pin-seeking missile was taking forever to come down, a buddy sitting next to me, Fred Funk’s caddie Mark Long, gushed, “Unbelievable. That’s the best shot I’ve seen all year.”

Granted, Long spends most of his time on the over-50 Tour. But his point was well taken. It’s the best shot I’ve seen since Padraig Harrington hit a 300-yard 3-wood onto the green from an uneven lie in a fairway bunker in the 2009 PGA Championship at Hazeltine.
