WEEK 9, MATCH 1: Jim McCabe ($798,045; 3-5-0) vs. Jeff Babineau ($1,405,213; 3-3-2)

JIM MCCABE

Best bet: Robert Allenby. Rock-solid start to the season, with three top 10s in four full-field starts and 11 of his 16 rounds in the 60s. Throw in three strong showings at PGA National – T-5, T-4, T-5 – and it appears to be a no-brainer. Plus, you tell yourself that eventually he’s got to win again, right?

The Honda Classic

Site: Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

Courses: PGA National Resort and Spa, Champion Course (7,158 yards, par 70)

Purse: $5.6 million

Winner’s share: $1.08 million

Ace up my sleeve: Steve Marino. Love his game, love his demeanor, and with this being a home game for him, let’s go with the local guy. (Of course, that could be half the field.)

JEFF BABINEAU

Best bet: Robert Allenby. Great record at the Honda, and has been playing well for months. Now it’s just a matter of converting a Sunday chance into another Tour victory.

Ace up my sleeve: Graeme McDowell. The wind can howl at PGA National, and this is a guy who knows how to play in it. About time for McDowell to start making a bigger splash on this side of the shore. He certainly has the talent to do so.

WEEK 9, MATCH 2: Lance Ringler ($1,642,658; 3-4-1) vs. Sean Martin ($3,856,513; 5-2-1)

LANCE RINGLER

Best bet: Robert Allenby. Not only has he been playing well in 2010 (three top 10s in five starts), but he has played well in this event since it moved from Mirasol to PGA National. Allenby has three top-5 showings in each of the last three years and is as good a pick as any this week.

Ace up my sleeve: Mark Wilson. He has flirted with Sunday leaderboards in better fields in the past, including last week in Arizona. I expect to see Wilson again on the weekend leaderboard at Honda..

• • •

SEAN MARTIN

Best bet: Robert Allenby. In five events this year, Allenby has three top 10s and hasn’t finished worse than 27th. Plus, he’s finished in the top 5 in his past three Honda starts. Hard to say no to that.

Ace up my sleeve: Steve Marino. Yes, he missed the cut at TPC Scottsdale, but that MC came after consecutive top-5 finishes. Plus, the South Florida resident has a solid record at PGA National. He hasn’t finished worse than 32nd in his past three Honda starts.
