Oregon shot a tournament-best 9-under 275 Tuesday en route to a runaway victory at the USC Collegiate Invitational.

The Ducks, No. 17 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, finished at 21-under 831 at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake, Calif., 16 shots ahead of second-place California (279), Golfweek’s 18th-ranked team. No. 13 Arizona State was third at 3-under 849.

It was Oregon’s first victory of the season.

The Ducks placed three players in the top 5, including sophomore Eugene Wong, who posted rounds of 65-69-69 to finish at 10-under 203 and win medalist honors. Sophomore Andrew Vijarro was fourth at 207, and sophomore Daniel Miernicki tied for fifth at 209.

USC freshman T.J. Vogel (71) finished second at 9-under 204, and San Diego sophomore Alex Ching was third at 206.

Vogel, whose best finish this season was a tie for 27th, would have been the third Trojan in the past four years to win his home event.

Oregon has not finished outside of the top 3 in six events in 2009-10, including a T-2 at its spring-opening event, the Mauna Lani Invitational. readers: We value your input and welcome your comments, but please be respectful in this forum.
