Talk about bouncing back.

A week after finishing last at the Wildcat Invitational, Tulane won its first title of the season Tuesday at the inaugural Kinderlou Forest Challenge.

The Green Wave, No. 33 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, posted a final-round 8-over 300 at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, Ga., to finish at 13-over 889. No. 24 Ohio State (302) was second at 20-over 896 and No. 11 Tennessee (304) was third at 901.

Tulane junior Janine Fellows, who started the final round tied for sixth, carded six birdies in a closing 3-under 70 to win the individual title by two shots. Fellows finished at 2-under 217. Vanderbilt’s Marina Alex and Georgia’s Marta Silva Zamora tied for second at 219.

Green Wave sophomore Samantha Troyanovich (220) tied for fourth and sophomore Ashley McKenney (224) tied for 13th.

It’s been a roller coaster season for the Green Wave. The team finished second at the season-opening Texas A&M “Mo”Morial, then followed with a 16th-place finish at the rain-shortened Mason Rudolph Championship. Tulane finished second Oct. 6 at the Windy City Collegiate, then closed the fall with a 13th-place showing at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship.

At the Wildcat Invitational on Feb. 23, Tulane finished 16th out of 16 teams, 51 shots behind winner Arizona State.
