PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Jack Nicklaus would be surprised if Tiger Woods misses the Masters.
After finishing his pro-am round at The Honda Classic, Nicklaus talked about Woods, who has been seen hitting balls on the range at his Isleworth home by Charles Howell III and J.B. Holmes.
“It would surprise me if he didn’t,” Nicklaus said of Woods’ return to the Masters, which starts in 32 days. “I can’t imagine in 100 years he’s going to miss Augusta.”
Nicklaus said he has stayed away from discussing Woods’ personal issues.
“As it relates to golf, my guess as a golfer is he’s going to want to play Augusta if he’s got his other things in order,” Nicklaus said.
Nicklaus used to take significant time off every year, usually from the PGA Championship until early January – a similar period of time that Woods has missed since his SUV accident on Thanksgiving night.
“I needed a couple of weeks of good, hard practice and a couple of tournaments before I could play,” Nicklaus said of how long it took him to prepare for competitive golf.
With that timetable in place, Woods could easily play the Masters. But the question remains: Where does Woods return before the first major of the year?
