Lamely-Willis pairing not a pretty sight

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – With the leaders preparing to embark upon their final rounds of the Honda Classic, we can say one thing definitively: The bad golf is at least out of the way.
That’s because the first pairing of the day, Garrett Willis and Derek Lamely, has finished.
How ugly was it? Consider that they combined for a best-ball 2-over 72, at a time, mind you, when the field average is a gentle 71.687.
OK, so Willis and Lamely were miles out of the lead and looking to just get things done, but did it have to be this ugly? They combined for a triple-bogey, a double-bogey, 16 bogeys, and just two birdies. That translated into a 79 for Willis and an 80 for Lamely.
The good news for Lamely? He actually would have won a match-play event, 1 up, and when all was said and done, he had edged out Willis by a stroke in the overall standings.
