California continued its torrid start to the spring Tuesday with a victory at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invite.

The Bears, No. 12 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, edged UC-Davis by two strokes at the Almaden Golf and Country Club in San Jose, Calif. It was California’s second victory of the season – and its third consecutive top-5 finish this spring.

San Jose State’s Cristina Corpus, Golfweek’s 117th-ranked player, carded a final-round 74 and held on for a two-stroke victory over UC Davis’ Demi Runas (72). Corpus finished at 1-over 217 during the two-day, 54-hole tournament.

Oklahoma State’s Caroline Hedwall, No. 2 in Golfweek’s rankings, placed third at 4-over 220. She was 7 over for her final 36 holes, falling off the pace after a tournament-low 69 in the opening round. Cal’s Joanne Lee placed fourth at 221, UC Davis’ Amy Simanton finished fifth at 222, and Fresno State’s Louisa Lies was sixth at 223.

It was another strong spring tournament for California, which finished second at the Peg Barnard Invitational and fourth at the Wildcat Invitational in February. In early October, the Bears won the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational.
