Miceli's Picks: WGC-CA Championship

WEEK 10, MATCH 1: Jim McCabe ($798,045; 3-6-0) vs. Lance Ringler ($1,653,634; 4-4-1)

JIM MCCABE

WGC-CA Championship

Site: Doral, Fla.

Courses: TPC Blue Monster at Doral (7,334 yards, par 72)

Purse: $8.5 million

Winner’s share: $1.4 million

• • •

Puerto Rico Open

Site: Rio Grande, Puerto Rico

Courses: Trump International Golf Club-Puerto Rico (7,526 yards, par 72)

Purse: $3.5 million

Winner’s share: $630,000

Best bet: Sean O’Hair. There’s been nothing dramatic to his season, but the Blue Monster appears to be a course that fits his game well at a time of the year that might agree with him. He was tied for 13th here a year ago.

Ace up my sleeve: Angel Cabrera. Given the field of 68, there aren’t a lot of choices of those who qualify, so why not go with a strong player with great power who can overpower the Blue Monster?

Puerto Rico pick: Brett Quigley. Sooner or later, he’s got to win. Doesn’t he?

• • •

LANCE RINGLER

Best bet: Camilo Villegas. Coming off a victory and four top 10s in a row, well, I have a gut feeling that Villegas will make it back-to-back victories.

Ace up my sleeve: Vijay Singh. Why not?

Puerto Rico pick: Chad Collins. He is the best player in the field - according to the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index - and gives me no reason not to pick him. After all, Collins has played in six PGA Tour events in 2010 and made the cut in all six including a pair of top 10s.

WEEK 10, MATCH 2: Jeff Babineau ($1,439,163; 4-3-2) vs. Sean Martin ($3,856,513; 5-3-1)

JEFF BABINEAU

Best bet: Camilo Villegas. OK, count me guilty. I’m going with the hot guy, the red-hot guy, and he’s a huge hit at Doral, especially with you-know-who not here.

Ace up my sleeve: Lucas Glover. Time for last year’s U.S. Open champion to get something going. Big event, lots of wind, and he's a good ballstriker.

Puerto Rico pick: Tommy Armour III. He’s been playing well on the Champions Tour, and no reason to think he won’t play well back on the PGA Tour – the hole is the same size, after all.

SEAN MARTIN

Best bet: Jim Furyk. The easy pick here is Camilo Villegas, and for good reason. I’m going to mix things up, though. Furyk is also a good bet, but won’t get as much attention. He finished third here last year and second in 2008.

Ace up my sleeve: J.B. Holmes. Holmes is having a great year, making all five cuts and finishing in the top 30 four times. He’s finished in the top 15 in three of his past four starts, including a tie for 12th last week at the Honda.

Puerto Rico pick: Jeev Milkha Singh. This is a guy who’s contended for majors and finished fourth in the WGC-CA Championship last year. He should fare well in this second-tier event. He’s coming off a solid T-35 at the Honda Classic.
