Schmaus (No. 294, 2011) commits to Houston
Thursday, March 11, 2010
Greg Schmaus, a senior at the Hank Haney IJGA/Heritage Academy, is hoping he can help add some pages to history books at the University of Houston, where he verbally committed last week.
Schmaus, No. 294 in the Class of 2010, made a third unofficial visit to Houston about four weeks ago. He notified new Cougars coach Jonathan Dismuke, an assistant coach at Texas A&M during last year’s NCAA Championship run, of his decision last Thursday.
Schmaus, of Upper Saddle River, N.J., told Golfweek that he chose Houston for a few reasons, including the facilities, weather, new coach and “incredible history of the program” that includes such alumni as Fred Couples and Nick Faldo.
He said he also considered Kansas, N.C. State and Kentucky.
Schmaus was a member of the 2007 All-IJGT Team and has several top-10 finishes on the International Junior Golf Tour.
Recently, he finished seventh at a Hooters Tour Carolina Winter Series event at Crow Creek GC in Calabash, N.C.
