Brooks Koepka’s error almost cost the Florida State men’s golf team a title at its home event. But the Seminoles’ Seath Lauer, Wesley Graham and Drew Kittleson came through in the end.

Koepka, a sophomore ranked No. 2 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings entering the event, was disqualified from the Seminole Intercollegiate for signing an incorrect scorecard, reducing a nine-shot victory to a margin of one over South Carolina

But Graham’s 3-under 68, which included an eagle-birdie-birdie start, and Lauer’s 70 gave the Seminoles a 13-over 865 total and just enough cushion to weather Koepka’s mistake. It was their third team title of the season.

Lauer, FSU’s senior captain, almost won the individual title as well, but fell to South Carolina senior Paul Woodbury (69) in a four-hole playoff after they finished regulation at 1-under 212. Woodbury won with a par on the par-4 18th hole.

Graham tied for third, and Kittleson (73), who was 1 under the final 14 holes after three bogeys in his first four holes, finished T-20 for FSU.

Koepka was poised to join Lauer and Newberry near the top of the leaderboard, but his error meant freshman Michael Hebert’s 78 had to count instead as FSU’s fourth score of the final round.
