Fountain (No. 67, 2010) commits to Davidson

Richard Fountain, No. 67 in the class of 2010, has verbally committed to Davidson College. Fountain chose the school after narrowing his list to Davidson and North Carolina. He took official visits to both schools.
Fountain, who finished T-2 at the Golfweek Junior Series event at Pine Needles in October, takes lessons from Ted Kiegiel, who also works with Wake Forest commit Grayson Murray and PGA Tour player Webb Simpson (who also went to Wake Forest). Fountain said he considered the idea of attending Wake Forest, and made an unofficial visit once when he passed through the area, but had “minimal contact” with the school other than that.
“Davidson and North Carolina were the two schools I wanted to go to anyway so it was good that those opportunities were available,” he said.
Academics were important to Fountain when choosing a school, and Davidson, a liberal arts school, fit the bill. The Raleigh, N.C., native also wanted to stay in state.
“I love Coach Straub and all the guys on the team are great,” Fountain said. “The course they play at, which is River Run, is real nice and so I was real excited about that.”
