PLNU to continue men’s golf through 2013
Monday, March 22, 2010
Three weeks after announcing it would cut four athletic programs, including men’s golf, Point Loma Nazarene University said March 17 that it will implement a three-year phase-out for student athletes on those teams. The move allows current freshmen to compete at PLNU for four years.
The three programs – men’s golf, men’s track and field and men’s cross country – are scheduled for cancellation following the 2013 athletic year. Women’s golf will be added beginning in the fall of 2011.
Point Loma Nazarene is a 3,500-student university located in San Diego. The men’s golf team is coming off one of its most successful campaigns in school history, after finishing the 2008-09 season ranked 15th in the nation. The Sea Lions have won in two of their past three starts this spring, and will compete in the Thunderbird Invitational March 29-30 at Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Ariz.
