Thorpe impressed by Woods’ golf game
TAMPA, Fla. – Add Jim Thorpe to the list of pros that have had a first-hand look at Tiger Woods’ golf game.
“From what I’ve seen last week of him hitting the golf ball, I tell you what, they’re in trouble man,” Thorpe said Saturday from the National Black Golf Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. “The guy is a machine. You know that sound, when you hit it right? He didn’t even bother to look up. He was hitting 3-irons 230-235 (yards) and they were landing one on top of another. He was driving it straight. All he’s worrying about is his putter. That’s the root of all evil, you know.”
Thorpe also expressed little concern about Tiger’s long layoff: “If you take a horse out of training, they always say he needs one race. Tiger’s not that horse. He’s done it. He knows how to do it. He’s not only going to win but he’s going to win by a lot.”
