Guilford coach Jensen dies at 71

Jack Jensen, who coached Guilford College’s golf team to the NAIA title in 1989 and NCAA Division III championships in 2002 and 2005, died Sunday at the age of 71.

Jensen and the men’s golf team had returned to the school’s Greensboro, N.C., campus Sunday night after a tournament in Camp Lejeune, N.C..

The cause of death has not been released.

Jensen also coached the school’s men’s basketball team. Last year, the school’s main basketball floor was renamed Jack Jensen Court.

Jensen is a member of the NAIA, North Carolina, Guilford County and Guilford College sports halls of fame.

He is survived by his wife, Marsha; two adult children, Laura Thornburg and Dennis; and a grandson, Jack Holton Thornburg.
