Houston qualifier ripe with talent

HUMBLE, Texas – It took a 7-under 65 to get into a playoff Monday for one of the four open qualifying spots for the Shell Houston Open. William McGirt, Tag Ridings, Andrew Svoboda and Frank Lickliter II advanced and Aron Price did not.
The list of players that qualified Monday has three PGA Tour members in it. The list of players that missed may be more impressive.
At least 20 Tour members tried to qualify at Cypresswood Golf Club in Spring, Texas, and finished under par. In order of finish, they included: Peter Tomasulo, Matt Weibring, Glen Day, Arjun Atwal, Eric Axley, Craig Kanada, Charles Warren, David Morland, Brandt Jobe, Patrick Sheehan, Dicky Pride, Tjaart van der Walt, Ken Duke, Andrew Parr, Kyle Reifers, Nick Flanagan, Cliff Kresge, Kirk Triplett, Andrew McLardy and Dean Pappas.
A total of 135 players teed it up for four spots.
With eight alternates already in the field, McLardy is the next alternate in line.
