Oride (No. 20, 2011) commits to Notre Dame
Tuesday, March 30, 2010
Kelli Oride has given a verbal commitment to Notre Dame for the fall of 2011. Oride, of Lihu, Hawaii, spent her spring break making unofficial visits to Notre Dame, Oregon and Washington before deciding to join the Fighting Irish.
Oride, No. 20 in Golfweek’s rankings for the class of 2011, said she thought Notre Dame was the best fit for her because of the coaches, the facilities and the academics. She knows the players joining the roster in the fall of 2010, and also the other 2011 commit, Ashley Armstrong.
Oride said going to school so far from home isn’t a concern.
“I’m actually OK with it because starting out with thinking about colleges, I knew that I would be OK with being far away from home if I found a program where I felt comfortable with it,” she said.
The two-time AJGA winner – who also recently tied for seventh at the Annika Invitational – said Notre Dame coaches Susan Holt and Kyle Lyne Veltri were very supportive, and she thinks she can be a “contributing force” to the team.
