Haney rebuffs rumors, still working with Tiger

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Since Tiger Woods missed the cut last week by eight strokes at the Quail Hollow Championship, speculation has swirled regarding his relationship with his coach, Hank Haney.
Asked for an accurate portrayal when reached by telephone Wednesday, Haney said, “Didn’t he answer that yesterday?”
Yes, quizzed about their status in a Tuesday news conference, Woods said, “I’m still working with him, yeah.” He did not elaborate or defend Haney as he has in the past. Rumors still have persisted.
So, you’re still together? Haney was asked Wednesday.
“As far as I know,” Haney said. “I don’t know anything else. I did get a paycheck for the next quarter. You don’t pay someone for the next quarter and then fire them the next day, do you?”
It’s safe to say that if a split does occur, Haney would walk away feeling proud of his assistance. He takes pride in the fact Woods has won 49 percent of his PGA Tour starts since July 2006, compared with 24 percent in the 2 1/2 years before they started working together.
