Stricker hoping for return at Colonial
Tuesday, May 18, 2010
Steve Stricker is itching to get back to work and hopes to play next week at Colonial Country Club.
Stricker had to withdraw after the Zurich Classic of New Orleans pro-am with an inflamed sternoclavicular joint in his right shoulder. He wanted to play at The Players two weeks ago, but couldn’t go and has not been inside the ropes since.
Having rested his ailing shoulder, Stricker finally got the go ahead to play nine holes a couple times last week. He says there is still a twinge every now and then in the joint, but it’s much less painful than before. Stricker is now progressing to 18 holes this week.
“I’ll see once I start,” Stricker said from his home in Madison, Wis. “It still seems a little inflamed.”
Stricker, the defending champion at Colonial, wants to do whatever he can to make his return to Fort Worth, but he also knows that he has a big stretch coming up with Memorial and the U.S. Open. He said previously that he would not return unless he is 100 percent. This week will give him a pretty good indication if he is ready to defend next week.
“It’s been great spending time at home with the kids and (his wife) Nicki,” Sticker said. “But I’m itching to get out.”
