Friday, May 21, 2010
Stanford moved to 4 under par, three strokes ahead of Florida State, when play was suspended Friday at the Central Regional in South Bend, Ind.
The Cardinal, the top-seeded team in this regional, began the second round with a two-shot lead over Florida. Northwestern is now third at 2 over, Florida is fourth at 5 over, and Michigan holds the fifth and final spot at 6 over. The top five spots secure bids to the NCAA Championship.
Iowa (6 over), Duke (8 over) and LSU (10 over) are within four strokes of fifth place, and Virginia Tech and Indiana are another shot back.
Only Michigan, Iowa and Indiana were able to finish play before lightning and thunder halted play Friday. The second round will resume at 8 a.m. EDT Saturday.
Michigan’s Matt Thompson, who carded rounds of 71-65, is tied for the individual lead with Florida State’s Drew Kittleson and Wesley Graham, both of whom have to finish their second rounds Saturday.
