WILMINGTON, N.C. – The final round of the NCAA Championship is under way, as half of the field is already making its way around the Country Club of Landfall for the last time. The third-round leaders – Purdue, Southern California, Arizona State and Alabama – are milling around the practice facilities, waiting to tee off in the final groups this afternoon.

With the sun out in full force, Wilmington residents are out walking the course and watching from their backyards, waiting for the afternoon excitement to begin. A crowd is already forming at the par-3 second hole, which has produced some big numbers so far in the tournament. This hole should factor into the final outcome in a big way, as the winning team will need to avoid a meltdown here to come out on top. After a pin tucked on the front-left side of the green in Round 3 – which brought the water surrounding the green very much into play – today’s pin is on the front-right part. An overly safe shot will leave the ball in the bunker that sits off the right side of the green.

Plenty of good numbers are available, however. LSU’s Megan McChrystal fired a NCAA Championship-record 8-under 64 in the final round.

Live scoring is down here in Wilmington, meaning players, coaches and fans will have a lot more difficulty in tracking the tournament as it comes down to the final holes.

Let the battle begin.
