Watching the HP Byron Nelson Championship over the weekend, I couldn’t help smiling when I noticed Blake Adams in the hunt.

I can’t offer a ton of insight on what makes Adams, a PGA Tour rookie after graduating from the Nationwide Tour, tick but I’ve been looking for his name on leaderboards since I bumped into him at The Transitions Championship in March. Not on the range mind you, but at Boston Market a few miles away from the Innisbrook Resort having dinner at the next table with his wife, Beth, and 2-year-old son, Jake.

I didn’t dare bother the guy (he gave a friendly nod hello probably because I was sitting with another player) but it was cool to observe him being dad, enjoying family time and remembering that not everyone on Tour eats prime rib and washes it down with a bottle of Opus One every night.

Some order off the family menu and pick the mac and cheese as a side.

After cashing a second-place check of $485,333, Adams can probably order a la carte now.

On a separate note, Adams might be missing out on a major sponsorship opportunity. His full name is Samuel Blakely Adams.

Someone get the brewery on a Line 1!
