Paolucci, Park named AJGA Players of Year
Anthony Paolucci and Kristen Park were named Rolex Junior Players of the Year on Wednesday.
Ryan Lavner and Julie Williams discuss the AJGA’s picks for Rolex Junior Players of the Year.
Paolucci, 17, a four-time Rolex Junior All-American, posted six top-5 finishes this season, including victories at the Thunderbird International Junior and Rolex Tournament of Champions. The Del Mar, Calif., native twice represented the U.S. in international competition – at the Duke of York Young Champions Trophy in England (T-7) and the Junior Ryder Cup, where he helped the U.S. claim its first victory in Europe.
Paolucci, a USC commit, is No. 1 in Golfweek’s rankings.
Park, 17, ended Victoria Tanco’s reign at the top and claimed Player of the Year honors for the first time in her career. Tanco won the award in 2008 and ’09, becoming only the fourth girl in the AJGA’s 32-year history to accomplish the feat.
Park is now a five-time Rolex Junior All-American – tied for fourth-most all-time in the girls division – and earned first-team honors for the first time since 2007, when she won the U.S. Girls’ Junior at age 14. The Buena Park, Calif., native won three AJGA events this season, including victories at the Rolex Tournament of Champions and Ping Invitational.
Park, a USC commit, is No. 2 in Golfweek’s rankings.
Paolucci and Park will be honored Nov. 21 during the Rolex Junior All-America Awards Banquet at PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
Past recipients include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Charles Howell III, Hunter Mahan, Scott Verplank, Cristie Kerr, Paula Creamer and Morgan Pressel.
