University of Illinois men’s golf coach Mike Small won his eighth consecutive Illinois PGA Championship Wednesday at Olympia Fields Country Club.

Small, who set an Olympia Fields course record with his second-round 63, finished at 13-under 200 for an 11-shot win over Travis Johns of Twin Lakes.

Both his 11-shot win and his 200 total are thought to be Illinois PGA Championship records by the Illinois PGA.

The win was Small’s ninth at the event in the past ten years – he lost in a playoff in 2002 to Gary Groh. The top 12 finishers at the Illinois PGA Championship received an exemption into next year’s PGA Professional National Championship at Hershey (Pa.) Country Club. Small is already exempt for the event as last year’s winner.
