Lorena Ochoa doesn’t want a big deal made over her recent dance lessons. She won’t be dazzling us with her merengue moves on “Dancing with the Stars” any time soon. She has been having a grand time with friends in Mexico City, however, filling up her time with anything but golf.

Her appearance last week at Notah Begay’s charity tournament was her first round of golf since Morelia last April. She worked on her book, her foundation, her home. She traveled to Europe and New York with her husband, Andres Conesa, for his business meetings with AeroMexico. She filled her days being a wife and stepmom.

“It’s amazing, all the things you need to do,” she said.

Ochoa was pleased with her round of best-ball with Begay. She made four birdies and enjoyed playing alongside former rival Annika Sorenstam in a pressure-free situation.

“We were actually able to laugh about our bad shots,” Ochoa said.

With the Lorena Ochoa Invitational coming up in November, she plans to begin practicing several hours a day to prepare. Her swing coach, Rafael Alarcon, will make the short flight from Guadalajara to help get her in shape. These sessions won’t be intense. She’ll practice on her own schedule, and take days off when she pleases.

“Every day, it’s very clear to me that I made the right decision,” Ochoa said. “All those little things make me happy - stay up late, going out with friends. Having weekends off is amazing.”
