Fujita captures Japan LPGA Championship

GIFU, Japan – Saiki Fujita produced a flawless final-day performance to complete victory in the 140 million yen (about US$1.65 million) Japan LPGA Championship Konica Minolta Cup.
With a bogey-free closing 69, Fujita claimed the biggest win of her career in the year’s second major on the Japan LPGA Tour.

Four shots clear at the top going into the final round, Fujita, 24, maintained her composure at the 6,601-yard Grandage Golf Club course. Fujita’s final round contained 15 pars and birdies at the first, 10th and 18th.
With her fourth career title and first in two years, Fujita climbed 14 places to third on the 2010 Japan LPGA Tour money list.
Her 13-under 275 total was four shots better than Australian Nikki Campbell (68). Koreans Ahn Sun-ju (69) and Young Kim (69) were two more shots back, tied for third at 281.
“I was so nervous yesterday but still finished under par,” Fujita said. “And that gave me a lot of confidence going into today. . . . It wasn’t easy, not being able to win for two years, but this victory has made up for it.’’
Defending champion Shinobu Moromizato placed T-12 at 287. Akane Iijima, winner of last week’s Golf5 Ladies Tournament, was joint 40th at 297.
