UNF’s Dale skips Wolf Run with knee bruise
Close followers of college golf may have noticed that North Florida junior Sean Dale wasn’t in the lineup for his title defense at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate. Dale, a second-team All-American last season, missed the event with a deep knee bruise, North Florida head coach Scott Schroeder said.
His absence should be brief, though. Dale, a second-team All-American last season, hopes to be back for North Florida’s second event, the Gary Koch Intercollegiate, Oct. 2-3 at Old Memorial Golf Club in Tampa, Fla.
The Ospreys finished seventh at Wolf Run without Dale. Sophomore Kevin Phelan, a U.S. Amateur Public Links semifinalist, finished fifth.
North Florida was No. 27 in Golfweek’s preseason rankings; the Ospreys finished 14th in last season’s NCAA Championship. Dale was the team’s top returner, ranking 19th in last season’s Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings. He was a Golfweek preseason second-team All-American.
Dale last competed at the U.S. Amateur. He tied for 138th in stroke play with rounds of 78-76.
