Pepperdine shot a final-round 281 and breezed to a season-opening victory Tuesday at the Kikkor Golf Husky Invitational.

The Waves, who finished the 2009-10 season No. 33 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, posted a three-round total of 17-under 847, seven shots ahead of host Washington at Washington National Golf Club in Auburn, Wash.

Pepperdine was led by junior Josh Anderson, who earned his second career title. Anderson carded rounds of 70-68-68 to finish at 10-under 206, four shots ahead of teammate Andrew Putnam. Putnam, a senior, won the Pacific Coast Amateur this summer.

Pepperdine won twice last spring, at the West Coast Conference Championship and General Hackler Championship, at which Anderson shared medalist honors.

Idaho’s Jarred Bossio (third) and Texas A&M’s Cameron Peck (T-6) shot course-record 63s during the final round – while playing in the same group.

Fresno State’s Bhavik Patel, a semifinalist at the 2009 U.S. Amateur, and Washington’s Chris Williams, a second-team selection in Golfweek’s preseason rankings, tied for fourth at 212. Oregon’s Eugene Wong, who last season won the Jack Nicklaus Award as the Division I player of the year, tied for 11th. readers: We value your input and welcome your comments, but please be respectful in this forum.
