Shin may skip LPGA events this fall

Jiyai Shin headed East to her native South Korea after the event in Arkansas and might not come back to this side of the world anytime soon.

Shin, who won the KLPGA Championship over the weekend, has a full schedule of Asian events this fall. Recent health issues have her thinking long-term, however, and she may skip the Lorena Ochoa Invitational and LPGA Tour Championship if she feels her body needs to rest. Shin pulled out of the State Farm Classic in June due to an emergency appendectomy, and her stomach is still giving her issues.

Shin, who moved to No. 2 in the Rolex World Rankings and No. 1 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Women’s Rankings, is in the race for all the year-end accolades. Still, she’s not committing to anything just yet. She leads the LPGA money list, is fourth in Player of the Year points and fifth in scoring average at 70.20. Suzann Pettersen leads at 70.00.

The victory in Korea was Shin’s 20th on the KLPGA, meeting the requirements for the KLPGA Hall of Fame. She will be the youngest to enter the Hall in 2015 when she’s officially enshrined.
