Wisconsin, Werwie win Badger Invite
Scores
Host Wisconsin shot a final-round 297 Monday to win the Badger Invitational at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison.
The Badgers, No. 59 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, posted a three-round total of 15-over 879, two shots ahead of Augusta State. Iowa (894) finished third.
It was only the second time that Wisconsin had won its own tournament in the 17-year history of the event.
“I’m thrilled with the victory,” Badgers coach Todd Oehrlein said in a release. “Early in the fall season this makes a big difference, especially from a confidence standpoint. We’ve had excellent practices and focus, so this was a great start for us.”
Wisconsin senior Carly Werwie won the individual race with a school- and tournament-record total of 3-under 213, two shots ahead of Xavier’s Audrey Fellmeth. It was Werwie’s first career title.
Wisconsin’s 54-hole total tied a tournament record, set by Purdue in 2005.
