MSU's Powers, Solberg team up for Hooters win

Michigan State’s Lindsey Solberg and Caroline Powers teamed up to win the second annual Hooters Team Championship on Aug. 4. Solberg and Powers combined for a 12-under 276 in the three-round event that includes alternate shot, best ball and team stroke play formats.
Powers – who finished T-6 at the NCAA Championship after qualifying as an individual – and Solberg shared the lead with Virginia’s Elizabeth Brightwell and Portland Rosen and Vanderbilt’s Marina Alex and Lauren Stratton entering the final round. Solberg shot even-par 72 at Achasta Golf Course in Dahlonega, Ga., as Powers added 71 to put the Spartans one shot clear of Virginia and Vanderbilt.
Iowa’s Kristi Cardwell and Chelsea Harris were fourth at 9-under 279.
The event, hosted by the National Golf Coaches Association, featured 54 two-person teams. Michigan State’s second team of Lindsey McPherson and Christine Meier finished T-8 at 2-under 286.
