MISSOULA, Mont. - Emily Milberger, who stepped in as interim women's coach at SMU last season, has been named head coach at Montana.

Milberger replaces Joanne Steele, who resigned after 15 seasons to start a women's program at North Florida.

"I'm excited and really looking forward to all the things the university and Missoula have to offer," Milberger said through a university news release. "I'm excited to get up there and dive right into the fall season."

Milberger recently completed her fourth season as a collegiate coach. She was an assistant at Oklahoma (2007-09) and SMU (2009-10) before being named interim coach at the Dallas school when Todd Selders resigned on the eve of the spring season.

SMU finished sixth in the Conference USA tournament, though only nine strokes behind champion UTEP. The Mustangs were No. 114 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings.

Athletic director Jim O'Day cited Milberger's recent experience as a key factor.

"We have no doubt Emily will do an outstanding job for us," O'Day said.

Milberger, a native of Olathe, Kan., was a four-time Academic All-American at Oklahoma (2001-05). She was second-team all-Big 12 as a senior, when she qualified for the NCAA regionals.
