Greenberry, 17, wins British Boys Amateur
17-year-old Harrison Greenberry held off Patrick Kelly to win the 85th (British) Boys Amateur Championship at Burnham & Berrow.
Greenberry was 3 up through 30 holes, but Kelly was able to fight back and push the 36-hole final to 37 holes, where an up-and-down par from Greenberry won the championship.
Greenberry is the first player from Devon to win the title since Mark Grieve in 1982.
The final match featured winds of 25 mph, making it tough to pick up birdies.
"This is awesome, absolutely awesome," said Greenberry. "When I came here this week, all I was trying to do was make the cut and then try get through a couple of rounds, but now I have won what's probably the biggest boys event in the world. To be honest, I think it will be a while before it sinks in."
Greenberry replaces Adrian Otaegui as the Amateur champion. He joins former champions Sergio Garcia, Tom Lewis, David Howell and Jose-Maria Olazabal.
The 2012 Boys Amateru will take place Aug. 14-19 at the Notts and Coxmoor golf clubs.
