Since the season has started I have felt like something great is going to happen this year. I had no idea what it was going to be, what form it was going to come in or how it would eventually affect my life. Just something good was coming my way.
On March 30-31, the Golf Channel was holding auditions for the Big Break in Daytona Beach, Fla. at the LPGA Futures Tour event. Almost all the girls in the field tried out for it. My audition time was Thursday and I was so excited for it. I went in and talked with one of the producers for about 30 minutes and it felt like a life time. There is a big camera on you and they ask you a bunch of questions. I felt great about how my interview went, but it really comes down to whether you are what they are looking for. I was OK with that and put it behind me.
It was either April 21 or 22, and I was standing on the practice putting green at the Norman Course in PGA West, and my phone rang. It was the Golf Channel and they told me that I was one part of their final selection process. I wasn’t officially picked, but they needed some more information from me.
I was jumping up and down excited but trying to hold it all in and pay attention to what information they needed from me. I finished my practice and went back to the house and sat down at my computer immediately and got to work on the paperwork that needed to be finished. The woman that called me said that I would hear by the end of the week, so I didn’t want to tell my family until I knew for sure what was going on, whether I was in or out.
Well, I didn’t do so well and on Sunday I told them I was a finalist; I needed them to be nervous with me!
On that Monday I traveled to San Antonio, Texas for the next LPGA Futures Tour Event and I was checking my phone constantly. I figured today was either the day or it wasn’t going to happen. I had finished my traveling and my practice and it was getting past 5:00 p.m., which meant it was past work hours in Florida.
I was just at the point to have a Nicole Pity Party by myself in the car, and I am pretty sure I left a bummed message on my mom’s voice mail too. Then my phone rang… I saw the Florida area code and my heart just jumped! I answered and they told me that I was selected!
I am pretty sure I said "Shut up! Are you serious! Heck yes!!" I was so stoked and just floating on cloud nine. Then my next thoughts went straight to, “Ohh what am I going to wear!! Hehe!”
And the rest of it you are going to get to see on the show! (Oh yeah, it starts airing Sept. 20 at 9 p.m. EDT)
