Horton leaves Tulane for Clemson women’s gig
CLEMSON, S.C. — J.T. Horton has been named Clemson's first women's golf coach.
The Tigers' director of golf Larry Penley announced Horton's hiring Friday. Horton joins Clemson from Tulane, where he spent the past four years restarting the golf program after it was halted following Hurricane Katrina.
Horton called Clemson his dream job. Penley said Horton stood out because he's familiar with the Tigers' men's program. Clemson women's golf team will start play in 2013.
Horton was Conference USA coach of the year in 2009 and 2010. His teams made the NCAA postseason three times.
Horton took over as Tulane's women's golf coach in 2007, then recruited for more than a year before the team began play in the 2008-09 season. The Green Wave won the Conference USA Championship that season.
