DeChambeau (N/R, 2012) commits to SMU
Bryson DeChambeau of Clovis Calif., has given a verbal commitment to play college golf at SMU.
DeChambeau received interest from UCLA, Oregon, Stanford and Oregon State, but decided to join Josh Gregory's squad at SMU.
DeChambeau is one of the top players in the 2012 class. He just finished competing at the U.S. Amateur at Erin Hills, where he defeated Auburn's Will McCurdy in the first round before losing to Texas A&M's Jordan Russell in the second round. DeChambeau posted rounds of 73-68 in stroke-play qualifying.
"I chose SMU because of the back to back two-time National Championship winning Coach Gregory. He is an awesome fit for me as well as the school only having 7,000 students. I am going to be able to get the education that I wanted as well as having a phenomenal golf program," said DeChambeau.
Recently DeChambeau placed second at the Callaway Junior Worlds, T-3rd at the Junior America's Cup and won the Hogan Cup. He also won the 2010 California State Junior Championship.
DeChambeau is the second player this week to give SMU a verbal commitment. Ryan Burgess of Rancho Santa Fe also plans to play golf for the Mustangs.
