Still not ready, Holmes WDs from Shootout

J.B. Holmes is improving after undergoing minor brain surgery in September, but the long-hitter still isn’t ready for competition. He withdrew Monday from this week’s Shark Shootout in Naples, Fla.
“It is with great disappointment that I elected to withdraw from this year’s Franklin Templeton Shootout,” Holmes, 29, said in a statement. “While I continue to make great strides in my recovery from surgery for Chiarai Malformation, I am not 100 percent and I think it would be a disservice to my partner, Kenny Perry, and the entire Franklin Templeton Shootout organization for me to play at less than full capacity.”
Holmes will be replaced in the team competition by Scott Stallings, winner at The Greenbrier Classic in July.
In an exclusive interview with Golfweek’s Jeff Rude, Holmes said that he began chipping, putting and hitting full shots in October. He was scheduled for a checkup with doctors shortly after Thanksgiving.
Holmes could return to the Tour as early as January. He earned nearly $1.4 million in 16 starts this season.
