Matthew Scobie of Ajax, Ontario has given a verbal commitment to play golf at the University of Houston.
Scobie, who attends Ajax High School and will graduate in 2013, also visited Ohio State.
“Houston is an incredible place. From the facilities, the history of the program, the weather, the coaches, their desire to win and help me succeed – it was awesome,” Scobie said. “During my visit, I just knew this is where I wanted to continue my golf career. I’m very excited to represent the University of Houston, no question. In this environment, I will be able to improve as a player as well as receive a top-flight education from the university’s School of Business. I’m really thankful for the opportunity.”
Scobie is a two-time winner of the Golf Association of Ontario’s Order of Merit, winning seven times over the past two seasons, including the GAO Junior Spring Classic, Ontario PGA Junior Open and the FCWT event at Doral. Scobie also was part of Team Ontario when it defeated Team Quebec in a Ryder Cup-style junior event played this past summer.
