Juan Cerda needed an eagle on the third hole of sudden death Friday to win the Junior Orange Bowl Championship. Cerda, of Chile, won the title after defeating Thomas Detry.

Cerda and Detry finished regulation tied at 6-under 278 in the 72-hole event played at the Biltmore Golf Course in Coral Gables, Fla. They returned to the 18th hole, each recording a par and a birdie. Cerda made eagle to Detry’s birdie the third time the two played the 18th to win the title.

Markus Maukner of Austria (5 under) and Emil Sogaard of Denmark (4 under) finished third and fourth, respectively. Jim Liu, the 2010 U.S. Junior Amateur champion, was part of a three-way tie for fifth at 2-under 282.

In the girls’ division, Korea’s Hyo Joo Kim finished at 3-under 281, one shot ahead of France’s Perrina Delacour. Canadian Brooke Henderson finished at even par for 72 holes, and France’s Celine Boutier, a Duke commit, was another shot back in fourth.
