Eloy Gonzalez has given a verbal commitment to play college golf at the University of Oklahoma. Gonzalez will join Blake Stasiunas, who committed to the Sooners a few weeks ago.
Gonzalez had received interest from Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Baylor, Houston, North Texas, Texas-Arlington, Lamar, Texas State, Coastal Carolina and Wichita State. He had made unofficial visits to Texas A&M, Baylor and Oklahoma.
This past summer, Gonzalez, who attends St. Augustine High School in Laredo, Texas, tied for 14th at the Callaway Junior World and won twice on the Texas Junior Golf Tour.
“I loved the campus, the golf facilities were amazing and a coaching staff with Coach (Ryan) Hybl and Coach (Blake) Smart that will help me take my game to the next level,” Gonzalez said. “I wanted to attend a university that would help me to achieve my goals of making it to the PGA Tour. The convenience of the athletic facilities, the campus and the golf facilities are second to none. Overall, it is a wonderful university with a great history and a great family atmosphere.”
