Oklahoma State, Miernicki notch wins in Hawaii

Oklahoma State opened the spring with a five-shot victory Friday at the Amer Ari Invitational. Its the third win of the season for the Cowboys, ranked No. 2 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings.
Seven shots ahead of the field entering the final round at Waikoloa (Hawaii) Kings’ Course, the Cowboys lost little ground, and finished five shots ahead of Texas. The team put together a three-round total of 34-under 830. Texas (No. 7) was at 29-under 835 while top-ranked UCLA claimed third another shot back.
The individual leaderboard also was covered in Cowboy orange as Kevin Tway finished fifth at 11-under 205, Morgan Hoffmann came in T-6 at 10-under 205 and Drew Page was T-10 at 7-under 209.
Oregon’s Daniel Miernicki won the individual contest after prevailing in a three-way playoff with UCLA’s Patrick Cantlay and Texas’ Bobby Hudson. All three finished at 13-under 203 for the tournament, but after seven playoff holes, Miernicki took the title.
Miernicki is ranked No. 91 by Golfweek.
