Kern (No. 168, 2011) commits to Boston College
Saturday, February 26, 2011
Charlie Kern of Mercer Island, Wash., has given a verbal commitment to play college golf at Boston College.
“I am extremely excited to join the Boston College program next year,” Kern said. “I’ll have the ability to make an immediate impact on the golf team and be a part of the program’s foundation. Coach (Bill) Poutre and Coach (Trevor) Drum are dedicated to achieving success and they have built a very strong 2011 recruiting class with Andy Mai, Edward McQuiston and John Jackopsic. It is a great opportunity to be able to play in the ACC and go to school in Boston. With the golf program’s bright future and BC’s strong academic reputation, the choice was easy for me.”
Kern, who is a senior at Mercer Island High School, had made official visits to Boston College, Miami of Ohio and William & Mary.
Kern, who was twice a simi-finalist at the PNGA Stroke/Match Play Junior Championship, shot a 61 at the IJGT Tournament of Champions in 2009.
