WASHINGTON – Mary Mattson has been named the head women’s golf coach at Georgetown, the school announced Tuesday. Mattson served as an assistant coach for the Hoyas during the fall, and joined the program last summer.

Mattson replaces Patty Post, who left in December to start the women’s golf program at Delaware.

“I’m very happy to have Mary take the step up to lead our program during this period of transition,” said Lee Reed, director of intercollegiate athletics at Georgetown. “She’s an accomplished player who had a tremendous collegiate career and she developed a strong relationship with our student-athletes during her first semester here. We’re confident that she will be successful leader for our program.”

Georgetown posted four top-10 finishes during the fall season, including a fourth-place finish at the Princeton Invitational. The Hoyas are ranked No. 141 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings.

“This is a great opportunity for me and I’m excited to lead this team,” Mattson said. “We have a strong nucleus of players and I’m thankful to Lee and the administration for their confidence in me.”

Information from the Georgetown athletic department was used in this report.
