After injury, Beckman back on the course
Thursday, January 6, 2011
KAPALUA, Hawaii – Cameron Beckman played his first tournament round of the 2011 season Thursday and like many it was his first competitive round in months. It’s not unusual for players to take time off and rarely pick up their sticks until the week before Hawaii.
Beckman, the winner of last years Mayakoba Golf Classic, was a little different; he didn’t pick up a club until last week because he couldn’t.
While trying to discipline his dog, Beckman injured the ligament on the first knuckle of his right hand. While surgery wasn’t required, Beckman could not make a fist with his right hand and had a splint that immobilized the right index finger for five weeks.
Shooting a one-under 72, Beckman said he was worried about the hand, which still had a little swelling around the knuckle, but coming in felt the knuckle would be fine.
