No hot water for early risers at Kapalua

KAPALUA, Hawaii – In what is hopefully not a precursor to the 2011 season, drizzles, or what the locals call “Pineapple Juice,” greeted the players when they awoke on Thursday morning. A little rain is not much of an omen, of course, but when the players go to shower, they may find not hot water at the Ritz Carlton, where many are staying this week.

It turns out that the pilot light for the hot water heater went out overnight, and hotel management did not find out until about 5:30 a.m. So no hot water for the early risers.

For the season opener, there is no hot water, rain and the possibility of at least two players, including the defending champion, Geoff Ogilvy, withdrawing from the Tournament of Champions.

Clearly, nothing has come easy in paradise.
