Florida Gulf Coast’s Meghan Spero has resigned from her position as head women’s golf coach, director of athletics Ken Kavanagh announced Thursday.

Spero was hired as FGCU’s head coach on July 1, 2010, but her resignation comes in the wake of her hiring as the Digital Marketing Manager for PGA Magazine, a position she will take later in January.

In this year’s early signing period, Spero inked Kristin Swindell of Bradenton, Fla., and Georgia Price of Fort Myers (Fla.) High School.

“We are obviously disappointed to lose Meghan’s talents and personality after such a short duration,” Kavanagh said. “We appreciate her contributions to our program this fall, including the recruitment of two outstanding young ladies, and wish her all the best as she commences the next chapter of her career.”

FGCU, which ended the season ranked No. 126 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, will begin the season Feb. 5-8 at the JU Classic in Jacksonville, Fla.
