Aussie trio earns British Open berth
Matt Millar, Kurt Barnes and Rick Kulacz are heading to the 140th Open Championship at Royal St. George's in Sandwich, England.
Australians Matt Millar, Kurt Barnes and Rick Kulacz earned spots in the 2011 Open Championship on Tuesday after surviving 36 holes of International Final Qualifying at Kingston Health Golf Club in Melbourne, Australia.
Millar earned medalist honors at 10-under 134, one shot ahead of Barnes, to earn his first Open berth. The last spot went to Kulacz, who defeated Stephen Leaney, the runner-up at the 2003 U.S. Open, with a par on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff.
The British Open will be held July 14-17 at Royal St. George's in Sandwich, England.
“I can’t wait,” Millar said. “This has been a goal I set this year and it’s good to achieve one so now I can move on to the next one.
The next International Final Qualifying event will be held Jan. 19-20 at Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club in Africa.
