Jake Knapp of Costa Mesa, Calif., has given a verbal commitment to top-ranked UCLA. Knapp, ranked No. 20 in the 2012 class, also was considering Washington, Oregon State, USC, Long Beach State, San Diego, Ohio State, Michigan and Oregon. He made unofficial visits to USC, Oregon and UCLA, and had received offers from Oregon and UCLA.
“UCLA is one of the top programs in the country, and I know that they will help me take my game to the next level,” Knapp said. “I have enjoyed getting to know Coach (Derek) Freeman and the players at UCLA. I am really looking forward to being a Bruin.”
Knapp, who attends Estancia High School, recently won the SCPGA Toyota Tour Cup at Carlton Oaks, placed second at the Hogan Cup, second at the AJGA at Centennial and fourth at the AJGA Under Armor/Vicky Hurst Championship. Knapp qualified for this year’s Callaway Junior World Championship with a 10-under 60 and went on to finish T-21st at the 2010 Callaway Junior World Golf Championships.
