HONOLULU – The beginning of the 2011 season, like any other season, brings its changes in equipment. But when a big name like Davis Love III leaves a long-standing relationship with Titlieist and moves to Bridgestone, it’s news.

The homepage of Bridgestone Golf has a picture of Love on a motorcycle with the caption, “Davis Love Joins A New Gang.”

In the press release announcing Love’s move, the former PGA champion and 2012 U.S. Ryder Cup captain had the following quote:

“Freddie (Couples) and I go way back, we’ve played a lot of golf together and I consider him one of my best friends on Tour,” Love said. “He’s been telling me for years about how great Bridgestone is, so I finally decided to look into them for myself and I liked what I found.

“I learned that they have industry-leading products and really creative marketing, two things that really peaked my interest. With the B330-S, I’m getting more distance out of my driver and long irons, and I feel very ready to compete in 2011.”

There was not a Love sighting Tuesday at the Sony Open, but expect to see the him dressed head to toe in Bridgestone logos on Wednesday in the pro-am at Waialae Country Club.
