The PGA Tour heads to La Quinta, Calif., this week for the first domestic event of the season, the Bob Hope Classic. Last year in the desert, Bill Haas closed with an 8-under 64 to win by one stroke over Matt Kuchar, Tim Clark and Bubba Watson.

Who will win the Hope this year? Our fantasy experts make their picks:

Rank Winner Wild Card
Babineau Bill Haas

Defending champion, spent last week practicing, and has good family roots and history at the Hope.

Charley Hoffman

Fall playoff event winner and former champion, a West Coast guy and this is a good place to make some hay.

Martin Matt Kuchar

Mr. Consistency hasn’t slowed since the start of the new year. He finished sixth at Kapalua, then fifth last week at the Sony Open. Kuchar’s a great wedge player and putter, two key skills at the Hope, where he finished second last year.

Martin Laird

The Scotsman was oh, so close, to a career-defining victory at The Barclays, but three-putted from 20 feet on the final hole, then lost a playoff to Kuchar. Still, the Colorado State product seems on the verge of a breakout season. He’s cracked the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking (No. 49), and he finished in the top 5 in his final three events of 2010 – T-5 at Dunhill Links, T-2 at Timberlake and T-3 at CIMB.

McCabe Jeff Overton

Consistent player breaks through for his first PGA Tour win at the Hope? Bill Haas last year, so why not Overton this year? Excitable player with aggressive game breaks through for his first PGA Tour win at the Hope? Pat Perez in 2009, so why not Overton this year?

Alex Prugh

Finished T-5 in his Hope debut a year ago, strung together a handful of impressive tournaments, and jumped out of the 2011 blocks with a T-20 at Sony a week ago.

Rude Matt Kuchar

Tied for second at Hope last year, and contended last week at Sony Open. So he's in form and has excelled at this week's venues.

Steve Marino

He also tied for second last week.

Ringler Tim Clark

Nearly won last week and has good history, with three top 5s in four starts at the Bob Hope.

Steve Elkington

Look for Elkington, 48, to make another run on the PGA Tour before he hits the Champions circuit.
